Particulate Matter Basics at EPA

Follow the link below for the EPA's explanation of fine particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and a very helpful, full color schematic showing just how small 2.5 microns really is. Consider that a typical grain of sand has a width of 90 microns and a human hair is usually between 50 and 70 microns wide, and you'll begin to understand why PM10 and PM2.5 awareness is so important.
